About the TERYT Register

TERYT (National Official Register of the Territorial Division of the Country) is maintained by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS). It provides a comprehensive, hierarchical classification of all administrative units in Poland.

The register consists of several sub-registries: TERC (territorial division codes for voivodeships, counties, and municipalities), SIMC (locality identification codes), and WMRODZ (locality type classification). Each unit receives a unique numeric code used across government systems.

Poland is divided into 16 voivodeships (regions), which contain counties (powiaty), further divided into municipalities (gminy). Municipalities are classified by type: urban (miejska), rural (wiejska), urban-rural (miejsko-wiejska), and special types for cities with county rights.
